Create Dependable Friendships

Last update: No update date available.

Welcome to a space dedicated to my personal growth and meaningful connections. Here, I emphasize the importance of building strong relationships through effective communication and nurturing bonds. You’ll find insights on getting involved in my community, from volunteering to activism, to foster a sense of purpose. Plus, I explore ways to identify and strengthen my support system, creating a reliable network to help me thrive.

Who you do something with > what you do.

Relationships

I must deliberately decide which connections to strengthen and which to allow to weaken.

People who are too similar can’t teach you much, while those who are too different may be hard to bond with.

Create Dependable Friendships

A dependable friendship is consistent, reciprocal, and low‑drama. It grows through small reliable touches, clear boundaries, and shared experiences over time.

North Star: Show up regularly in ways that make life lighter for each other.

What this means for me

  • Prioritize a small circle and invest deliberately.
  • Default to clarity. Say what I will do and by when.
  • Track follow‑ups so promises don’t slip.
  • Protect energy. Decline kindly when capacity is low.

Connected note (origin)

  • Heartbeat: 1. Meaningful Connections — “Meaningful Connections” frames this domain and names key people to deepen.\

Encounters

Capture learnings from interactions, patterns, and prompts to try next time. Tag relationships, boundaries, or skills practiced.

Suggested tags

  • Relationship skills: boundaries, trust, gratitude
  • Mode: meeting, phone call, Email
  • Reflection: mindfulness, perspective, acceptance

Prompts to log after each encounter

  • What felt safe and energizing?
  • What did I learn about their world?
  • What experiment will I try next time?

Operating checklist

  • Choose 1–3 people to intentionally deepen this week
  • Schedule or propose the next touchpoint before ending the current one
  • Send one small, specific appreciation
  • Log the encounter and one experiment to try next time
  • Review open tasks and close the loop on promises

Reflection prompts

  • What makes this friendship feel safe and energizing?
  • Where am I over‑promising or under‑communicating?
  • What small ritual can make our connection more dependable?

🔀  Learn from Mentees

Last update: Money and I have a complicated relationship. It’s not “love/hate” so much as “obsession/avoidance.” I’ll obsess over the next big move, then avoid logging into my bank app…
